GIRLCRUSH: Jessy Kusno

19/03/2020

Jessy Kusno is a content creator, a girl boss and, an inspiration. She’s not only a planner. She’s also a doer (and in the middle of these hectic days, she managed to be stylish). *cue to applause

As we are working together with her for our upcoming collaboration collection, we had a little time to catch up. Here’s how it went:

Your top 3 current projects:
Kopi Biru,
Rawteria (plant-based milk),
That Line Project (My Holistic Marketing Company)

What’s a day in your life look like? Do you have a daily routine?
Wake up - work out - meetings/office/store visit - hangout with friends/go home and get my beauty sleep. Sometimes, if needed, I work overtime.

As a girl and a boss, do you have certain challenges (that you’re sure you won’t have to face if you were a man)? How do you overcome those challenges?
Firstly, of course, we are dealing with the monthly mood swings, period cramps that affect our productivity sometimes.
Secondly, generally, we’re still putting our family first—serve the husband, take care of the kids before anything else. Family life over work life.
I always look up at those strong women out there, especially the working moms. I see the way they balance their family and work life with their social life and their hobbies as well. Standing ovation for them.
Just like this quote, “Here's to strong women. May we know them. May we be them. May we raise them.”

Who do you look up to and why?
Growing up with no parents, I didn’t have someone to look up to, so the people around me are my biggest inspirations. A big shoutout to all strong, hardworking women, especially the working moms! Thank you for being my life gurus.

Words to live by:
Talents bring you to the top, but characters let you stay there!

Do you have any advice for girls who want to start their businesses? Is starting a business for everyone?
Always believe in yourself, you’re bigger than your fear. If you can think of it, of course you can do it and achieve, so don’t be afraid to try. If you fall, just get back up and do something more.
Do some research before you start the business, or always start from a problem solving and market needs. Think of your uniqueness, what makes your business different from anybody else.

The best business tip you’ve ever heard:
Trust the process, but don’t lose sight of your goal.

How can we tell — will a business idea work or fail?
When the business maker is not putting 100% to the business and always want to be like others, not having its uniqueness.
